6 Digit Codes refers to reference codes for the pornographic website nHentai. Typing various 6-digit numbers onto the end of an nHentai URL leads to specific issues of hentai series' on the site. These numbers are used on various social media platforms to share the sauce for specific hentai. Image macros referencing 6 digit codes became popular in anime circles throughout 2020, often missing context regarding what the numbers mean to confuse those out-of-the-loop.
In the following months the joke spread around social media, particularly on subreddits like /r/animemes and /r/hentaimemes, 9Gag, and Twitter. On March 31st, 2019, Redditor Lightning3773[2] posted an image macro to /r/Animemes with the top text, "When your friend asks why you have an entire notebook filled with numbers," titled, "118282 is my favorite so far" (shown below). The post gained over 3,800 upvotes in 20 months.
